What To Expect

Welcome to Worship!  God wants to be worshiped by you according to His Holy design. The Church is the Bride of Christ Jesus, the Son of God. So He tells us how to worship. Here's what you can expect at the Bellevue Church of Christ:

SINGING: "Speaking to yourselves in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs" (Ephesians 5:19). Just as the New Testament commands, Bellevue Christians sing to one another in praise to God.

PRAYING: We don't tell God what to do; He tells us what to do. However, prayer is a time of the worship God has set apart for us to "ask" what we want. It may seem selfish, but that is exactly the way God wants our prayers. Thanksgiving, requests, and intercession (prayer for others), make prayer time an integral part of worship at Bellevue.

GIVING: The Old Testament called this part of worship "sacrifice," which is exactly what many people do in gift giving. It cost Jesus everything he held dear to save us and forgive us. The members of the Lord's church at Bellevue give of their means on a weekly basis to support the many ministries and missions of the congregation, and they are given monthly progress reports on how their contributions are being used to spread the gospel.  As a first-time visitor to Bellevue, you are our honored guest - please do not feel pressured or obligated to make a financial contribution.

PREACHING: In looking for the biblical pattern for worship as found in the New Testament, we find an individual whose role is to proclaim the gospel to those that need to hear it, and exhort and encourage those who are already Christians to remain faithful to God, much like the apostles in the early church.  This person is the "evangelist" or "preacher."  Here at Bellevue, the sermon has become the central part of worship. Our evangelist takes Biblical passages and provides relevant and practical applications to our everyday lives.  The Bible is the most important book that has ever been written, and it is read and preached every week at Bellevue Church of Christ without exception.

LORD'S SUPPER: This is the part of worship for which "the Lord's Day" received its name. Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection are celebrated in the form of a meal. The guest of honor is none other than Christ Jesus himself who partakes in heaven as the leader of his earthly kingdom.  Jesus instructed his disciples to remember him by partaking of food and drink which represent his body and blood which were shed on the cross for our sins.

Those are the Five Parts of worship at Bellevue. Here at Bellevue we regard worship as a joyous occasion while at the same time realizing that we are in the presence of God almighty and His Son Jesus, and thus desire to worship Him in a manner which gives Him the honor, praise, and respect He is due.

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU: Only your presence and a desire to worship God in a way in which He deserves to be worshiped.  There are no perfect Christians here at Bellevue (or anywhere, for that matter).  We are simply a group of believers who desire to worship and obey God following the pattern set forth by Jesus and his apostles in the New Testament.  We are joyous when visitors come into our midst who are looking for these same things.  If you are looking for a church home, we cordially invite you to worship with us at Bellevue, and we would love the opportunity to get to know you.

When you worship with us, if you have a simple question (location of classes, nursery, cry rooms, restrooms, etc.), please ask any of our ushers and greeters - they are there to assist you in any way.  If you have a more serious type of question, or have a specific need or prayer request, our elders make themselves available after every worship service and any of them will be more than willing to talk with you in a private setting.  Our ministers are also available and willing to talk with you during the week.  Please let us know how we can assist you and minister to you as we help each other receive the eternal reward that God has offered.

We hope to see you at Bellevue this Sunday and anytime doors are open for us to meet and worship together.
